Choosing the right foundation
Foundation is one of the biggest beauty products out there. Of course why wouldn’t it be? It can do miracles for your face, cover zits, even out your skin and just generally make you look flawless. That is, if you can pick the right product for you. That can be a nightmare, the make-up aisles are overflowing with all kinds of crazy things, so where do you begin?
Tinted moisturizer
This stuff works great if your looking for light coverage. They offer lighter coverage to give you more of a lower maintenance, natural look. Tinted moisturizer is not for you if you have oily skin, some (although not all) will not cover shininess very well. Bottom line, if you have pretty decent skin, go for it.
Long wearing foundations
Long wearing foundations are better for oily-er skin types. They don't break down with the oils and mostly last all day. They are a little tricky to apply. The problem is that they set more quickly than other types. So be sure to work in one small area, and then move on to the next.
Liquid foundation
This is probably one of the most popular formulas used. Liquid offers a medium to full coverage depending on how you apply it. Liquid can probably do the most for you. It can cover blemishes and even out skin tones.
Liquid stays in place best when set in with powder. This offers a great canvas for color, and will help your foundation stay in place much longer.
Matte foundation
This stuff is great oily skin. It keeps you shine free. It absorbs oil to fight off the shine from coming through. Matte foundation will feel tight on normal to dry skin.
Acne foundations
This stuff basically fixes your skin as you cover the flaws. I always broke out in the summer during my high school years. This stuff was great. It's great for acne prone skin.
Neutrogena is a great brand to try out. They obviously know a thing or two about skin and acne.
Illuminating foundations
This is what I recomend for dry skin. If you're dull it'll give your skin that nice glow you're probably dying for. These are also great for older ladies looking for that youthful glow. They just brighten your face up. Now, if your oily, beware. You're skin is "glowy" enough and this foundation won't really do anything for you.
Stick foundations
Stick foundations are great for there versatility. They can be used as a concealer or foundation. They're great if you change your coverage due to skin conditions. They're quick to put on as well. Great for the busy lifestyle. Many have a nice powder finish.
If you use this make up all over, be sure to use a brush. it'll just work out much better for you.
Anti-aging foundations
These foundations are designed to help bring the older woman's best face forward. They often have a bit of the illuminating effect we talked about earlier. My mother raves about these products, and I can definately see the smoother, even finish when she's wearing them.
She personally loves covergirl's advanced radiance line.
Powder foundations
Powder foundations can work for anyone. For oily skin, it absorbs oils and covers at the same time. It's great for setting other foundations. It's great for low maintenance ladies that just want to sweep on some powder and walk out the door. They even make powder acne foundations. Which again, are great because they heal while the hide.
A warning about loose powder, if the lid doesn't screw closed, don't take it in your car! It almost always eventually spills!
